August 12, 1985 marked a day of remembrance to those who lost loved ones in the single-aircraft disaster with the highest number of fatalities. 520 souls were lost that day due to an explosive decompression caused by an incorrectly repaired aft pressure bulkhead which failed mid-flight leading to mechanical failure.
The pilots were able to keep the plane on air for about 30 minutes only to crash into a mountain. A number of people survived the impact but succumbed to the injuries before the Japanese rescue team got to them.
