Aurora Borealis is visible roughly on 200 nights a year and any other clear night. Finland is often overlooked considering its low population which probably outnumbered by the reindeers. It tends to be very chilly on the clear winter nights when the lights are most easily seen hence advisable to keep very warm.
A great alternative, of course, is to stay in a purpose-built igloo or cottage and watch the lights from a comfy, warm bed instead. For better chances to see the lights visit between September and March.
